THE DOOD FIELD GUIDE / IMPLEMENTATION
Lead scoring that produces a useful next action
Separate fit, engagement and disqualifiers before assigning points.

Illustrative model: a service match earns 20 points, a confirmed process owner 15 and an explicit prototype request 25. An unsupported requirement triggers review regardless of the total. These weights are examples to test, not a proven model.
Fit and activity answer different questions
Fit describes whether your business can serve the enquiry. Engagement describes what the person has done. A frequent visitor can still be a poor match. Keep those dimensions visible so the owner can explain why a lead reached a queue. HubSpot supports distinct fit and engagement scores; that product pattern is useful context, not a requirement to adopt its exact scoring rules.
Start with a routing decision
Decide what should happen at a threshold: ask a clarifying question, assign a specialist or book a review. Do not score for a dashboard alone. Name the owner and response expectation for each route. Explicit disqualifiers should remain visible rather than disappearing inside a blended total.
Prevent repeated signals from dominating
One repeated low-intent action should not outweigh a clear service mismatch. Cap repeat events, define a review window and distinguish a meeting booked from a meeting completed. Missing information should be unknown, not silently interpreted as no fit. Keep the original evidence available for review.
Validate on past and new enquiries
Have sales review a sample without seeing the score, then compare their decisions with the proposed routing. Inspect false positives and missed good-fit enquiries. Start with human review before automatic action. Monitor qualified outcomes by cohort and revisit the rules when your offer or target customer changes.
Does a high score mean a lead will buy?
No. It is a prioritization signal. Budget, timing, need and the buying decision still require a conversation.
